  • It's one thing to kill ticks, it's another to stop their diseases!
    Ticks Carry Life Threatening Disease!

Introducing TICK Detach by Francodex (Preventic brand at the vets)

    TICK Detach collar

    Who is a tick's host?

Ticks are blood sucking pests that target, not only dogs, but other domestic pets, wild animals and humans.

What time of year can you expect to see a tick?

The North (example: PA, NY and WI), has a tick season from May to September. The South (example: TX, OK and GA), can start is tick season from the first warm days of March. A decline normally occurs during the heat of the summer but ticks return again during late August/September. So in the south, there are two seasons.

    Where to ticks hide?

You can find ticks in warm, damp, moist areas of yard, i.e. under trees, shrubs, porches, wood piles, tall grass, in the bark of trees and on all fences and verticle surfaces up to about three feet, etc.

What makes TICK Detach different from other tick collars?

The TICK Detach collar contains Amitraz! Amitraz is a powerful compound that inhibits the tick from "feeding" on your dog. The tick's sharp barbed mouth parts become paralyzed and cannot pierce the skin. For attached ticks, they detach! In both cases, Amitraz is lethal to ticks.

It takes approximately three days from the start of the "feeding" before a disease is transferred. If the tick detaches or dies before this time, Lyme Disease or other infections are not contracted. TICK Detach will remove 95% of ticks after 24 hours and 100% within 48 hours so your dog is safe from Lyme Disease. Amitraz mixes with the natural oils of your dog's skin and spreads from head to tail. Amitraz remains on the outside of the dog and penetrates the ticks ectoskeleton. The tick does not need to bite your dog to be killed.

    Why is detaching so important?

Many flea and tick collars on the market today will kill a percentage of the ticks found on dogs. But approximately 50% of the dead ticks will remain attached to the dog. Improper removal of the tick can leave behind infectious mouth parts and fluids.

What if I live where ticks are not a threat? Does my dog still need TICK Detach?

Ticks are nationwide and carry many diseases.

    How to use TICK Detach:

Use on dogs 3 months of age or older. Once the collar has been fitted to your dog (adjusted tightly enough to contact skin and so that dog cannot remove it), clip off excess and dispose of properly. The TICK Detach collar safeguards dogs for 75 days. It is important to keep the collar adjusted throughout this time.

Only bathe the dog with a non-detergent shampoo, since bathing with soap removes all Amitraz from your dog's skin and haircoat. And because TICK Detach works with a dog's natural oils, it is essential to treat severe dry skin problems, should they occur.

Remember, TICK Detach is not an insecticide, which means other methods must be used to control fleas. We recommend a spot on product like Frontline.
